Dam Square is a great starting point for exploring Amsterdam as it can be found in the heart of the city so it's usually the first port of call for visitors as its got lots to explore.

Amsterdam has over 37 museums so take the time to visit the Museum Quarter where you'll find three of the main museums - Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk Museum and the Van Gogh Museum.

Other top attractions include Magere Brug Bridge, Begijnhof, Vondelpark, Artis Zoo and Anne Frank House. And if your curiosity is getting the better of you, take a walk along Amsterdam's famous Red Light District, it's not for everyone, but it is part of the Amsterdam experience.

Don't pass up the opportunity to see Amsterdam by canal! It's an enjoyable experience and a great way to get a real glimpse of the city. You can take a day cruise on the Canal Bus (which is a hop-on hop-off tour), rent out a canal bike and make your own adventure or opt for something special like a candlelit cruise, a jazz cruise or a dinner cruise. (Read our Blog article for more!)

Shop Dutch style and visit some of its famous street markets like Albert Cupy (the most popular street market in Holland!), Waterlooplein, Bloemenmarkt Flower Market or Dappermarkt if you really want to get a bargain!

If you can squeeze it into your busy itinerary then a visit to the Heineken Brewery is a must for all you beer-lovers!

More of Amsterdam's top sites are the Royal Palace, the Maritime Museum, Magna Plaza and Oude Kerk.

Or for something a little bit different travel to the Jordaan area, NEMO or Katten Kabinet

And because it's such a compact city why not hire out a bike, as there's lots of cycle lanes and no hills. There are rent-a-bike shops everywhere (the main ones at Dam Square, Central Station and Leidseplein) which rent bikes by the hour, the day, or even longer.
