The oldest Zoo in the country (founded in 1838) and its full name is Natura Artis Magistra (Latin for "Nature is the teacher of art") and in 1883 the last Quagga (A Subspecies of Zebra that is only half stripped) known to exist in the world died. The zoo also features a superb aquarium that was renovated in the late nineties, and it has a salt water section and a fresh water tank for the different varieties of tropical fish. The zoo is also home to a very popular Planetarium and it gives an extensive review of the cosmos (note it is closed on Mondays). There is also a Botanical Garden, a Zoological Museum and a Geological Museum.
This is a very popular attraction with thousands of animals. And after brushing up on your wildlife studies we’d suggest a leisurely stroll around the zoo’s gardens.
