Dam Square

Lying at the centre of Amsterdam, we see Dam Square as the city’s heartbeat with tourists and locals mingling around the endless shops, stalls, restaurants and bars. In our opinion though, the real treasure of Dam Square is Koninklijk Palace. Visit the Koninklijk Palace’s where the Dutch royal family used to reside, it sits on the west side of Dam Square. Next to the Palace are the equally interesting waxworks of Madame Tussauds and the enthralling architecture of the 15th century Gothic Nieuwe Kerk (New Church).

Also adjacent to the square is the upmarket department store De Bijenkorf. Other ‘worth-a-visit’ attractions in Dam Square include the National Memorial statue situated on the square’s south side. The Red Light District is just a short distance from the north-east corner of the square. The square is a popular residence for the city pigeons so bird feeding is a popular activity in the square.
