Magere Brug

Amsterdam Netherlands
With no shortage of bridges in Amsterdam, you’d have to be a pretty special piece of engineering to stick out in this city! And Magere Brug (known locally as the Skinny Bridge) is the most popular of all Amsterdam’s bridges, with photographers and romantic couples taking advantage of its wonderful views along the River Amstel. This bascule bridge connects the banks of the river at Kerkstraat Street, between Keizersgracht canal and Prinsengracht canal. It was originally built in 1670 and has been renovated several times in the past.

The bridge is an especially spectacular during the evening when the 1200 lights are illuminated and the bridge become a wondrous sight to see. During the annual VE day celebrations there is usually a concert held next to the bridge that some members of the Dutch royal family usually attend.
