From the moment visitors see the Magna Plaza shopping centre, you'll get the impression that this magnificent building was not always a shopping mall!
Designed by architect P.C Peters and built in 1899, Magna Plaza was once Amsterdam’s post office building. This shopping mall is fantastic to look at and is unlike any shopping mall you’d encounter anywhere in the world.
Once you are inside you'll see the shops are situated around the central atrium under the original 19th –century glass dome. The supporting walls have been removed so this leaves a wonderful open space with high ceilings and Gothic interiors to view.
If you're looking for up market fashion shops, you won’t be disappointed at Magna Plaza. The mall opened in 1990 and all the shops were spread over 4 stories. You'll see a grand piano placed in the centre of the ground floor. During weekends live music is played which is most welcoming. So for some retail therapy while in Amsterdam make for the pear shaped crowns of Magna Plaza.
