The Oude Kerk or the 'Old Church', is Amsterdam’s oldest parish church which is believed to date back as far as the 13th or 14th century, so it could be considered the oldest stone building in Amsterdam. It can be found in Amsterdam's red-light district.
This attraction should definitely be checked out when in Amsterdam. It's quite an unusual building and once you explore it you'll know why. Nearly all the floors of the church are made up of graves, as this church was in fact built on a graveyard. It is believed that the bodies of over 10,000 people have been buried here including famous painters, scientist and poets. Its roof is also an astonishing feature, as it's said that the roof on the church is the highest vaulted roof in Europe! You'll also see three splendid pipe organs in the church, one dating as far back as 1770!
Today the church is mainly used for cultural and religious event and if you're looking for it you'll notice it by it very visible spire.
