(Image: © Netherlands Board of Tourism & Conventions 2004).This is perhaps the most famous and largest park in Amsterdam; both locals and visitors alike regard this place as a haven of tranquillity within Amsterdam. Opened to the public in 1865, the park was renamed after a famous 17th century writer, Joost van den Vondel and there's actually a statue of of him in the park! The Park occasionally holds such events as golf tournaments and running contests.
We recommend you take a whole afternoon in Vondelpark and strolling or biking along its footpaths, picnic by its tranquil ponds or simply lounge around on its pristine lawns. During the summer months there is an open-air theatre that takes place in Vondelpark five days a week, near the entrance from Eeghenstraat.
