This Square is located in the centre of the city situated not far from the Amstel River. It was founded in 1882 and in 1893 became the Jewish market square. After the war the square became a flea market as all the Jews had been removed by the Nazis. Today the square holds about 300 stalls and is open throughout the week except for Sundays.
This Square is very popular with tourists who come to see the wide variety of stalls and the historical buildings that encircle the plaza, such as the Stopera which houses both the City Hall and the Muziektheater (Opera) and the Mozes en Aaronkerk Church.
